leggings- how to wear them right.

Leggings have become a hot fashion favourite among women, from teenage girls to their mothers all have this piece of clothing in their closet. The way they all wear them may differ of course. What is it that makes the legging so attractive to everyone.

The most important fact is that these are extremely comfortable, giving you a lot of freedom of movement because they will stretch with your movement. That's more than enough reason for many women to get their hands on one.

Secondly, they are well fitted so they give good shape. The fact that they are close to your body adds to the fact that your clothing will not be flying with the wind(if the situation arises), like harem pants or wide bottom pants(which have been little popular compared to leggings).

The fact that one can incorporate these with Indian or western wear is also an added advantage. You will see leggings in all colours and sizes with kurtis, anarkalis, dresses etc.... the list is endless.

        Types of leggings:
EXTRALONG: These are much longer than your ankles and hence give an extra fabric effect at the ankles. This gives a natural detailing effect to your ankles. Pair these with the cute ethnic kurtis, anarkali or angrakha kameez. Dress up your feet with colourful kolhapuris or neon coloured flats, cutesy ballerinas.     (if you are really up for some ethnic fun put on a pair of payals(silver anklets) and see the attention your legs get.

ANKLE LENGTH:  These end just at your ankles. no extra fabric here. they give a straight and simple edge at the bottom. These are best worn with western or indo-western attire. Pair them with ballet flats and an oversized shirt for effortless style. The special thing about this type is that they make your legs appear leaner and longer, if worn correctly. Don't wear these with extra long kurta or a long skirt. Anything that ends just above to knee looks best, you can also pair them with that "oh so short" dress or mini of yours that you wouldn't dare to wear otherwise.  They can serve as office wear as well as with casual wear. Invest in a pair of black leggings, they are going to be the most versatile piece of clothing you own.

 THREE FORTH LEGGINGS:

These end anywhere between your ankles and knee. They serve most of the purpose that a full length legging would serve but they look far more casual unlike the full length ones which can be worn for more formal occasions and as office wear.
Some interesting ways to wear leggings

THE ROARING TWENTIES....are you up for it.

Old is Gold. this statement holds true today more than ever. With classic style and vintage glamour gaining popularity and the younger generation looking back for inspiration.

The coming days offer us some respite from tight fitted clothing. With the fashion from "the great Gatsby" fast gaining popularity, the 'roaring twenties' are back with a louder roar than ever before. So girls tuck away those body formers and body cocoons....we are talking flapper dresses, bobbed hair, pretty girly accessories, and pearls....lots of them...

The 1920's era was defined by women realising their freedom and creative ability. Fashion was inspired by the thought process and women ditched the corsets for more comfortable and young clothing.

Dropped waist dresses, shimmer and glitter gained popularity. Hair was more glamorous and shorter, and hence easy to maintain. The bobbed hair style was copied from Hollywood actresses by women all over the world.

The short flapper dresses gave women the sense of freedom and individuality. Also adding a more younger and feminine touch to their ensemble.

The 'oh so pretty' waves in the hair gave the added touch of glamour. women wild with the wavy hair and the bob. Not that we are complaining, I think it made women look really pretty and girly. The fashion was young and girls didn't think twice to experiment with their looks.

Many actresses today have replicated this style with élan. Must say with a little help from their stylist.

Here are some pieces from various collections that I liked that stay true to this trend. Try to find these pieces at shop windows or run to your favourite tailor or dressmaker to duplicate these for you. You cannot go wrong with these.

A drop waist was the most striking feature of the dresses of this period. It looks stunning and young. most dresses will have tassels and shimmer which makes them even more unique. You can choose if you don't want to put these. Mostly these dresses will

An interesting back detailing with pearls.

Here is a simple ensemble you can put together to create a classic 20's look. The dress is not complication so you can easily get it anywhere or just have it made. a pair peep toes with preferably 2-3 inches heels, a pearl necklace, and a cute little hat. Gloves is an option one may choose to skip, but believe me it will set you apart for a party.

Also pay close attention to hair accessories.

I leave you with a classic picture of what girls love doing best(get chitty chatty)......then and even now.

Monsoon style beat.

With the MET department predicting the rains sooner than we think its time to get your rain gear in check. Thinking of the rain one may think of wading through ankle deep water on a crowded street. But believe me its far more than just that.
Just take your umbrella aside and look at the drops of pure bliss falling on your face every once in a while and you will understand the magnitude of this miracle of God.

          Fashion check for the rains:
Today we talk about my passion.....Shoes.....

Rain shoes have come a long way since the time my mother used to buy ugly looking black hard plastic shoes for the monsoon. I used to love the rains but dread wearing those ugly things in my feet. Ignoring the fact that my feet are looking like those of workers on the shipping port(with all due respect....yuck) I used to hop to school purposefully putting my umbrella aside to get a "bit wet".
After harsh summers of Mumbai these tiny drops of God's blessings were such a joy.

Well getting back to our topic....these days girls just wait for the drops to come charging towards to parched earth, coz this means they can get those perky umbrellas out, the cute pair of shorts and plastic PUC slippers and shoes in the most garish colours and yet get away with it.

This season talks of all things perky neon. Neon shoes look the cutest when worn correctly.

Pair them with dull earthy tones. Make sure you don't overdo the neon trend. Any one item in neon like either a cool watch, or a pair of neon slippers with jeans or cargo shorts look best.

Many say that neon looks good only on college going teens, I beg to disagree. I think if we follow the "only one neon item" rule, this trend can be safely worn by anyone.

neon shoes come in an array of colours. Stacked in branded showrooms to roadside vendors. Take your pick depending on your budget. Hill road in Bandra (Mumbai) gives a wonderful choice of various styles and colours. Take a lazy walk down the road  to see for yourself which style might suit your taste. there are many options available.

I am putting up some of the interesting patterns that I liked. Try and spot these at the shop windows, they are quite unique.

Pair your neons with shorts or mini skirts. They will never go wrong.

The part of your body where you wear the neon colour will attract the most attention. Like these flip flops. Be sure to scrub your feet clean and go for a bright coloured nail paint. This makes your feet look dainty and nice. Its not necessary to go for a pedicure every other day. Just cleanliness goes a long way.

Don't wear very high heels in the rains. They make your feet slip and you look like you're making too much of an effort walking. Platforms work best. They give your the needed height and also the proper comfort during the rainy months.

White is not exactly a neon colour and this pair falls out of our discussion list, but "I liked them"....

Platforms again. And the colour is super cute ...don't you think?

Ah! Now these can get any girl's attention. They are really soft and don't give a threat of a painful shoe bite. Very comfortable and stylish.

These shoes paint a pretty picture.

Who says gumboots have to be ugly....the ones I wore in my childhood were, but these are just so cute.

These perky slippers can lift your mood on a gloomy day and instantly make you feel pretty and cheerful.

HOPE YOU ENJOYED MY CHOICES.
DO MAKE SURE YOU GIVE YOURSELF SOMETIME WHILE CHOOSING YOUR RAINY SHOES.
BUY SHOES THAT FIT WELL.
ILL FITTING WILL GIVE YOU PAINFUL SHOE BITES.
AND REMEMBER :DON'T ASPIRE FOR 5 INCH HEELS.

WAITING IMPATIENTLY FOR THE RAINS.
